Contemplative silent walk

£50.00

Upcoming dates:

  • Wednesday 16th September

  • Sunday 18th October

  • Friday 13th November

Slow down. Walk quietly. Notice more.

Join us for a contemplative silent walk through some of Dartmoor's most beautiful and ancient landscapes.

For much of the day we'll walk in companionable silence, giving ourselves the opportunity to step away from the constant noise of everyday life and experience mindful walking in the landscape. Without the usual conversation, many people find they begin to notice things they would otherwise miss: the sound of running water, the wind moving through the trees, the texture of ancient stone, birdsong, changing light and wide open skies.

Why walk in silence?

A silent walk offers a different way of experiencing Dartmoor. Without the need to fill the day with conversation, there’s more space to notice what’s around you, to listen, reflect and become absorbed in the landscape.

For some people, walking in silence can feel restorative and calming; for others it simply offers a welcome break from the noise and busyness of everyday life. There is no particular way to experience it - you can simply walk, notice and be present.

The route

Our route will take us across open moorland, through peaceful woodland, alongside rivers, and to some of Dartmoor's remarkable prehistoric stone circles and stone rows. Along the way there will be time to pause, rest and simply be. We'll also include one or two short, optional guided meditations to help you settle into the landscape.

The route will cover approximately 10-15km across uneven Dartmoor terrain. The walk is not particularly challenging and will be taken at a relaxed pace, with regular opportunities to rest, reflect and take in the surroundings. However, participants should be comfortable walking this distance and navigating rough ground for much of the day.

There is no expectation of prior meditation experience, and the day isn't about achieving anything or "doing silence correctly". It's simply an invitation to walk at an unhurried pace, enjoy the company of others without the pressure to talk, and experience Dartmoor in a different way.

We will meet at 9:45am and aim to begin walking at 10am. Please allow plenty of time for your journey so that we can set off on schedule. We expect to finish at approximately 4:30pm.
